Ay, Pero Funny was born from a life lived between two languages, two worlds, and one vibrant community.

From a young age, my sister and I were my mother’s translators, sitting in official appointments, turning English into Spanish and Spanish into English, making sure nothing important was lost in the gaps. I learned early on that language is more than words; it’s about making people feel seen, understood, and included.

Later, in my professional career, I noticed the same challenge over and over again: English documents were often “translated” into Spanish in ways that didn’t match the audience’s literacy level or cultural context. I took it upon myself to translate and adapt everything so that it truly spoke to the people reading it.

That’s where my love for Spanglish comes in. Spanglish isn’t just a mix of words — it’s a reflection of growing up speaking Spanish at home, then switching to English at school, work, and everywhere else. It’s for anyone who’s ever said, “Ay, pero that’s funny!” without even thinking twice about which language they’re in.
